3 spiritual conditions:
* Natural (unsaved) man.
* Carnal Christian.
* Spiritual man.
The following notes are an introduction to the subject, they are basic concepts, which need to be studied. If you have questions, I will try to answer you.
All unsaved people are born with two natures;
The Human Nature (the nature to be human; Body, Soul, Spirit);
The Sinful Nature (the nature to sin, aka The Old Man, Carnal Mind).
1. THE NATURAL MAN is the person who lives life in the natural realm, separate from a personal, Divinely imparted relationship with God.
*1 Corinthians 2:14
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
The Natural Man is lost, out of communications with God.
*2. THE CARNAL CHRISTIAN is the person who lives life in a spiritual relationship with God, having been regenerated and having received from God the Divine Nature, but contending with an inherent evil nature.
1 Corinthians 3:1-4
1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
The Carnal Christian still has his Human Nature, and always will.
The Carnal Christian still has his Sinful Nature, and always will until he calls on Christ in faith to deliver him from "all sin."
The Carnal Christian, at salvation, received the Divine Nature, which is created in holiness and righteousness, aka The Mind of Christ.
The Carnal Christian has two separate natures (attitudes, inclinations) which are diametrically opposed to one another and in constant conflict with one another, seeking to direct the Human Nature, thus the Carnal Christian is Double Minded.
Remember, salvation gives us a new life and a new nature that is cleansed from our sins (rebellious words, thoughts, deeds). Salvation does not deliver us from the Sinful Nature. Through the New Man our Human Nature is enabled, empowered to trust and obey God. But since the newly converted person now has a new man (spiritual mind) and still has the old man (carnal mind), the Carnal Christian often has an inner battle, desiring to please God, but also having an inner desire to disobey God. This inner battle is addressed in Romans chapter 7.
DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF BELIEVING that God leaves the believer in a Double Minded condition. HE DOES NOT. The end of Romans 7 and then Romans 8 (with Romans 6) clearly teaches that God delivers the Carnal Christian from the, "Body of death," "The Law of Sin and Death" (the sinful nature).
The Carnal Christian is saved, but struggles with the tyranny of the sinful nature. God has provided for the Carnal Christian to be delivered from ALL SIN, through the Blood of Christ, the Fire of the Holy Spirit, the Washing of the Word.
*3. THE SPIRITUAL MAN is the person who has received Christ and His salvation by faith, but has continued to follow Christ in obedience, bringing him to the realization that God not only forgives sins committed, but purifies from inherent sin nature.
1 Corinthians 3:1
1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
The Spiritual Person has crucified the Old Man, has died to sin, died to the world and the world to him. The Spiritual Person is living in his physical flesh, but is no longer living in "the flesh" (the mind of the flesh), he is no longer Carnal or Carnally Minded, Double Minded.
The Spiritual Man still has his Human Nature and his New, Divine Nature, but he has been delivered from the Sinful Nature. The Spiritual Man is pure, even as Christ is pure. He loves with pure and perfect love. He is still attacked by Satan and he must still confront and resist temptation, but the corruption is from outside of himself, not within.
The Spiritual Man walks in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, the light of the word of God and in the footsteps of Jesus. As long as the Spiritual Man walks in the light, he is cleansed from all sin. The life of the Spiritual Man is always dependent on a continuing, constant and consistent relationship with God, through faith.

I recently confused 2 songs. One song has, They wouldn't Bow, Bend, "BURN," the other song says, "...THEY WOULDN'T WORSHIP ANYONE BUT GOD. "
It is not that I don't make mistakes, I do and I know it. But when I make a public mistake I like to set the record straight.
After service recently, someone brought to my attention that I had confused the words of a popular Gospel song, written by Arthur Smith (The Fourth Man, which was sung by Johnny Cash, The Statler Brothers and The Statesmen Quartet), with a song that was written by one of our own people. It is not a big deal, but I do like to clear up the confusion I cause.
Sometimes when I am confronted with a correction, I acknowledge I could be wrong or that I am wrong. Then when the evidence disproves my point of view, I accept it (being the gracious and humble person that I am... hehehe). I am stubborn, but I try not to be pigheaded or proud or difficult. Any way, back to the songs.
The words to the Arthur Smith chorus includes,
They wouldn't bend...

They wouldn't burn...
I believe the words to our song say,

I never forgot why we stood against the State.
This photo was taken 34 years ago.
Our ministry, our church people and our families had been targeted for persecution and dissolution by the State. The parents refused to deny Christ as Lord of the Church and Lord of their lives, even as their children were being threatened by anti-Christ forces in the government.
Our facility had been outlawed and shutdown by the State in order to force us to deny the Lordship of Christ and to end our ministry. Still, our people continued to serve, worship and stand in the face of threats, false accusations and abandonment by fellow believers.
This picture shows some of the children in our ministry during an evening service. The State threatened my arrest, and eventually cut off the power to our building, in an attempt to force us into submission. This was 1986. As a closing word, let me point out that this facility eventually became a Muslim Mosque. When people abandon the light of God and His people, darkness fills that gap. You better make the right choice.

Our ministry, our church people and our families had been targeted for persecution and dissolution by the State. The parents refused to deny Christ as Lord of the Church and Lord of their lives, even as their children were being threatened by anti-Christ forces in the government.
Our facility had been outlawed and shutdown by the State in order to force us to deny the Lordship of Christ and to end our ministry. Still, our people continued to serve, worship and stand in the face of threats, false accusations and abandonment by fellow believers.

The State threatened my arrest, and eventually cut off the power to our building, in an attempt to force us into submission. This was 1986. * Christian grace can only be given by God, but it must be received by the believer who submits, yields, subjects to and obeys God. It is an act of will to the command and promise of God.
* God deserves, commands and expects total submission to Himself, which is manifested by resisting the devil. Those who align with God will resist the devil, just as God resists those who follow the devil.
* Christians will be targeted and attacked by the devil, but those who submit to God and resist the devil in the power of God will not be defeated by the devil. It is not empty, boasting words that defeat Satan, but unrestrained resistance to the ways of Satan.

* God invites and actually commands us to draw near to Him. It is our responsibility to draw near to God. As Jude said, we are to build ourselves up in our holy faith and we are to keep ourselves in the love of God. We are to enact the faith with which we are enabled.
* God desires to be close to us, to cleanse us, to empower us, but God allows us to freely accept or reject His grace and Spirit.
* We are cleansed by the Blood, the word, the Spirit of God, but we only receive that cleansing if we avail ourselves and surrender ourselves to that cleansing. This is what it means to, "cleanse our hands" and "purify our hearts."
* The cleansing of the hands refers to believers lives being cleansed from sinful deeds. The purifying of the heart refers to the believer being delivered from the sinful nature.
* Double minded people who have a carnal mind (from the time of birth, into the time of their new birth) and a spiritual mind (from the time of the new birth). After conversion, and before the fullness of the Holy Spirit, the two minds (carnal and spiritual) are in conflict within us. It is only when the fullness of the Holy Spirit burns and flushes out the carnal mind (sinful nature, Old Man) that we are purified and delivered from being Double Minded.

* We will not experience God's victory until we realize that we are hopeless and helpless without Him and His grace. This is where we must humble ourselves, lower ourselves, submit ourselves, in order for God to lift us up.
* Christians must extend love, grace, mercy, tenderness, kindness to fellow believers. We are to serve and submit to one another. We must not judge or misrepresent one another. This does not mean we accept sin, but it does mean that we do unto others as we would have them to unto us. We must extend to others the same considerations that God extends to us.

* God is the only Law Giver. We cannot add to the law of God and we cannot take away from the required moral law of God. We must not judge God's children or servants, though we must hold each other accountable for faithful obedience.

Advancing in grace and salvation depends on advancing in grace and salvation.
Stagnant discipleship stagnates, it doesn't advance.
PLEASE READ
When we enter into salvation through saving grace, it is due to the miraculous, gracious work of God. Without God's initiative and provision and enabling grace, no one can be saved and no one even wants to be saved. It is God who calls us and saves us, as we accept His offer and believe on Christ. New Testament belief in Christ is manifested in humble obedience to God's will. If we are not obedient, we are not exercising saving faith, and without faith (saving faith) no one can be saved.
From the time of our instantaneous conversion we begin to grow in our relationship with God and in our personal grace and knowledge of salvation, just as a normal and healthy baby grows. God nurtures us with His word and whatever else is necessary for life and growth. At the earliest stage of salvation our understanding of God's word and God's will is basic, but shallow. It is like a baby living on milk rather than meat.
Therefore we enter into life suddenly, by the regenerating power of God, but we grow (progress) in our relationship and salvation, incrementally as we receive and walk in God's light (truth). Though all of our sins (acts of disobedience to God) are forgiven and we are regenerated and we are turned from sin to righteousness, we are not delivered from the sinful nature (Old Man, Carnal Mind). We can only be forgiven or our actions. We cannot be forgiven of our nature. Just as we get Divine nature through a sudden Divine work of salvation, we must be delivered from our sin nature by a sudden Divine work of deliverance.
God wants His children to come to a point of total surrender, commitment, trust. God leads us to a point that we die to self, to the world, to sin. At that point we either enter into perfection (aka atonement perfection, believer's perfection or Christian perfection) or we begin to move toward darkness rather than walk in His light. This is perfection of heart, perfection of love, heart purity.
God calls us to perfection of love and heart and we enter into that relationship and life by an act of faith, just as we entered into salvation. This deeper spiritual life allows us to "eat" stronger spiritual food (meat).
After God delivers us from Double Mindedness we begin to advance, grow, progress in His grace and salvation, much more aggressively than we did while we were carnal Christians.
John Wesley succinctly stated it something like this:
Christian Perfection is approached gradually, entered into suddenly and grown (lived) in forever.

Advancing in grace and salvation depends on advancing in grace and salvation.
Stagnant discipleship stagnates, it doesn't advance.
PLEASE READ
When we enter into salvation through saving grace, it is due to the miraculous, gracious work of God. Without God's initiative and provision and enabling grace, no one can be saved and no one even wants to be saved. It is God who calls us and saves us, as we accept His offer and believe on Christ. New Testament belief in Christ is manifested in humble obedience to God's will. If we are not obedient, we are not exercising saving faith, and without faith (saving faith) no one can be saved.
From the time of our instantaneous conversion we begin to grow in our relationship with God and in our personal grace and knowledge of salvation, just as a normal and healthy baby grows. God nurtures us with His word and whatever else is necessary for life and growth. At the earliest stage of salvation our understanding of God's word and God's will is basic, but shallow. It is like a baby living on milk rather than meat.
Therefore we enter into life suddenly, by the regenerating power of God, but we grow (progress) in our relationship and salvation, incrementally as we receive and walk in God's light (truth). Though all of our sins (acts of disobedience to God) are forgiven and we are regenerated and we are turned from sin to righteousness, we are not delivered from the sinful nature (Old Man, Carnal Mind). We can only be forgiven or our actions. We cannot be forgiven of our nature. Just as we get Divine nature through a sudden Divine work of salvation, we must be delivered from our sin nature by a sudden Divine work of deliverance.
God wants His children to come to a point of total surrender, commitment, trust. God leads us to a point that we die to self, to the world, to sin. At that point we either enter into perfection (aka atonement perfection, believer's perfection or Christian perfection) or we begin to move toward darkness rather than walk in His light. This is perfection of heart, perfection of love, heart purity.
God calls us to perfection of love and heart and we enter into that relationship and life by an act of faith, just as we entered into salvation. This deeper spiritual life allows us to "eat" stronger spiritual food (meat).
After God delivers us from Double Mindedness we begin to advance, grow, progress in His grace and salvation, much more aggressively than we did while we were carnal Christians.
John Wesley succinctly stated it something like this:
Christian Perfection is approached gradually, entered into suddenly and grown (lived) in forever.

All of the attacks on faith, decency, family, marriage, children, family values, Christian liberty, law and order, justice and a host of other American ideals and standards are still taking place (and intensifying), with millions of gun owners not saying a word, other than defending their right to own and bear arms.

I am always glad for valid Biblical witness in any public arena. I am not sure what the link is intended to communicate. I have always been glad for the success of the gospel in the Public School. I know there are deeply committed Christian teachers, Administration, Staff and Students involved in the Public School.
However, the vast majority of P.S. do squash and prohibit Christian ministry and there are many, many, many times more young people who have their faith destroyed than there are young people who are encouraged in their faith. In fact, the laws of the State and the foundation of Secular Education is built solidly upon Atheistic Liberalism and Socialism and ensconced in the P.S. agenda, curriculum and leadership.
I am glad for the good work that might be happening in XXXXX and for the people dedicated to that work. I don't really know anymore about this school, so I can't really address this issue. As you told me personally, it is extremely rare to find a Gospel Choir in a Public School. I would like to thing that such a presence is widespread and dominant in XXXXX. It is strange and scary how Christian people ever thought that it was essential or acceptable for Christians to swear (pledge) unrestricted loyalty (allegiance) to a flag or country or any entity other than the Living God.
We cannot serve two masters.
Christ is not co-regent with anyone.
We must serve God rather than man.
There is no political test to being a Christian.
Scriptures require Christians to submit to legitimate authority (the State) wherever they live.
Scriptures require Christians to obey God rather than the State, whenever the State opposes the moral law of God.
There is only one God.
There is only one Lord.

Christians in each nation are to obey their own governments.
If Christians in each nation swore unlimited loyalty to his own nation, then each believer would be dedicated to kill Christians in other nations.
The N.T. forbids making a vow, or swearing a pledge, or an oath.
The "Flag" is not God and is not even symbolic of God.
The Flag is symbolic of an undefined political entity.
The name, United States of America is not defined by founding principles or law or form of rule.
"The United States of America" can be the name of any political or governmental entity at any time, regardless of it's form.
In other words, the Pledge of Allegiance is indefinite concerning the form or nature or origin of the country being surrendered to.
"The Republic for which it stands" is also indefinite, depending on what "Republic" is in power at the time.
And, as we have seen recently, historic references are only as good as the changing views attached to them by the concurrently ruling party.
The Pledge can and will be changed to suit any ruling group at any given time.
Remember, the addition of the phrase, "under God," was added to the Pledge.
The Pledge does not reference the God of the Bible, of the New Testament; does not reference U.S. Constitution.
Millions of loyal Americans have never recited the Pledge of Allegiance. We can start with George Washington.
If reciting the Pledge of Allegiance indicates a Christian position, then millions of Christians died without ever reciting it and millions more live around the world, who will never recite the Pledge.
Obviously, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to any nation is not obligatory to any Christian.
In fact, Pledging Allegiance to anyone or any entity besides God is forbidden by God and is actually an act of rejection of the Lordship of Christ over all of life.
The courts of the USA have recognized the rights of people (Christians in particular) to not swear or take an oath or even bear arms in defense of our country.
This does not even address the Communistic and Unitarian origin of the Pledge to the Flag.
I am a loyal American, but I do not Pledge, Vow, Swear myself to the unlimited authority of the USA.
Remember, this is not a partial Pledge of Allegiance.
A partial Pledge would be absurd.
In fact, I don't even know an America today that resembles anything like the America of our Founding Fathers or Early Patriots or Heroes of Liberty throughout the history of the greatest nation on the face of the planet.
THEREFORE I stand by my post.

I could give quote after quote concerning the meaning of pledge, promise, swear, oath, but I won't take the time. Pledging, promising, swearing, oathing are not simply strong sounding words without force. These words indicate serious, legal, moral commitments. These words are used so loosely in our society that they are not taken seriously. Then again, our society is not committed to being honest, truthful, loyal.
God said it, not me, "Swear not at all," and, "anything more than yes and no comes from evil," and, "anything more than yes or no will cause you to fall into condemnation."
I am sure there are plenty of people who will dance around this clear revelation of God, but God said what He meant.
I could easily go on to point out that it is wrong to make promises, commitments concerning good, holy, righteous issues, BUT HOW MUCH MORE OBVIOUS IS IT TO MAKE PROMISES AND COMMITMENTS TO DO THAT WHICH IS EVIL?
Making a promise to be loyal to a worldly entity, which is not even a Christian organization or body, is foolish and absurd.
I don't believe it is my opinion to say that the Bible forbids believers from making binding promises (pledges) of loyalty to earthly kingdoms or nations.
Concerning Christians as loyal Americans without Pledge of Allegiance, I give these quick points.

My job as pastor is to remind folks of what they already know. It isn't that people are told too often, but that people neglect what they have been told and must be reminded.
