01/20/20 OT AND NT PURPOSES
O.T. reveals wickedness of sin, cost of salvation, separation from God.
N.T. conquers sin, procures salvation, reconciles to God.
Knowing this helps us understand why the Old Testament and the New Testament are so different and why the O.T. records such seemingly radical concepts.
OLD TESTAMENT BACKGROUND
Human behavior in the O.T. indicates how extremely evil man is.
God's sacrificial system indicates man's need for salvation.
God's judgment on human sin indicates the need for Divine reconciliation.
NEW TESTAMENT PROVISION AND PROMISE
Sin is overcome and defeated by the death and Resurrection of Christ.
Jesus' victory over sin and death is offered to all who turn to Christ.
Believers are forgiven, cleansed, renewed, empowered and reconciled.
